The Challenge

Following the development of their new Brand Strategy and Expression, Simaril Supported Living needed a website that would bring their refreshed identity to life online. The site needed to clearly communicate their services, support families seeking information, and reflect their commitment to inclusion.

Because Simaril supports individuals with diverse needs, it was important that their digital presence be accessible to a wide range of users. Early in the project, accessibility had not been identified as a primary priority. Through discussions with the Simaril team, it became clear that accessibility closely aligned with their mission and the communities they serve. The challenge became creating a modern website that reflected the new brand while also meeting strong accessibility standards.

The 6P Solution

We designed and developed a new website for Simaril with accessibility considered throughout the process. By addressing accessibility early in the project, both design and development decisions were able to support a more inclusive experience from the start.

The site was built using accessible design and development practices aligned with WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines. This included attention to colour contrast, readable typography, scalable font sizes, and clear page hierarchy to support assistive technologies such as screen readers. Keyboard navigation, semantic markup, and properly labelled images were also implemented to improve usability for people interacting with the site in different ways.

Following launch, our team conducted a comprehensive accessibility audit to evaluate the site against WCAG criteria and identify areas for improvement. Rather than simply providing recommendations, we implemented the required updates, strengthening accessibility across the site. This process reinforced that accessibility is not a one-time milestone but an ongoing commitment.

The Outcome

The new Simaril website delivers a modern and accessible digital experience that reflects the organization’s mission and values. Improved readability, structure, and navigation help visitors more easily access information and engage with Simaril’s services.

By integrating accessibility into both development and post-launch improvements, the website better supports the diverse audiences Simaril serves while strengthening their online presence.
